There’s no denying ‘Breaking Bad’ is brilliant. I love it! I’m sorry to see it go. It’s one of the few shows I can see going on for years there’s so much potential.
But… these last few episodes while powerful, to me have serious problems. The biggest is Walter’s family situation where they all turn against him. It just seems so contrived to make us feel Walter is a sad lonely man. Or to punish him.
Would Junior really take his uncle’s side over his own father? Would a son really hate his father that much for supposedly killing his uncle? I don’t think so. While wives can seemingly turn on a dime and hate their husbands, a son is a completely different story. A mother may be able to corrupt a younger child to her way of thinking but no way she could do that to someone older like Junior, he’s what at least 18.
Plot problems:
Jesse – everyone seems to want to make Jesse an innocent. But remember he practically put Walter in business. I don’t feel sorry for him at all. He’s getting what he deserved.
Skyler – come on, guilty as charged, completely complicit in being a birch.
Hank – another misstep that screams contrived. Would a relative really truly instantly come to the conclusion that his brother in law is a master criminal? Come on. It would have to take months of investigation before I believed that about a close family member.
Marie – she takes her husband’s side over her sister? I don’t know about that one either. And for her to demand that Skyler tell Junior what a bad person his father was is just bitchier than even the way Skyler acts sometimes. Another totally contrived moment solely designed to force the story (and the audience) in a certain direction.
Walter – okay so we assume he’s psychotic. He has to be to whip snap around as he has been lately. Now he wants to take on the Aryan gang because they ‘stole’ his money? Did he forget he gave it to them? To save Hank – 80 million bucks to save his brother in law? Hmmm, I don’t know about that one either….
