Nothing detracts from my reading enjoyment or irks me more than inaccuracies in a book. Just because you saw something in a movie or on TV doesn’t make it true. For example I recently read a book where a victim was tortured by being shocked with a car battery. How many times has this cliché scene has appeared in some film!
Well let me tell you it wouldn’t have been much of a torture because the victim wouldn’t have felt a thing. A car battery only has 12 volts (just a tiny bit more than a 9 volts smoke detector battery), and even if the electrodes were clipped to one’s nipples while they were standing in water they still wouldn’t feel anything. A villain have to go pretty far to actually harm his victim with a car battery.
You want to jolt someone? Simply plug your wires into a wall socket. That’s 120 volts (or even 240 in some areas like the UK), yeah, that will do the trick.
The point is: DO SOME RESEARCH! It’s not like you have to get off your ass and go to the library any longer.
