Does the End Justify the Means?
You think not? The proof is all around you.
The U.S. government in the form of the NSA with enforcement by the FBI is spying on every citizen (and all our allies) every single day in every manner possible. They tap phones and monitor all communications and internet use – all in the name of ‘protecting’ us from terrorism.
This is the single most defining example of the End Justifies the Means ever.
The U.S. government doesn’t want to admit it, or even tell you, but the terrorists have already won.
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines terrorism as:
Systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/terrorism
All your precious freedoms we fought for have been taken away: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Privacy (the government now says this wasn’t ever a right), and on and on. The minority has won over the majority.
Not true? Try smoking a cigarette in most places these days. Even if you’re not a smoker and hate smoking, it’s just another freedom taken away. It’s just a small minor example of eroding freedom. The End Justifies the Means because smoking is bad for you.
